Wildlife photography isn't about owning the biggest lens. It's about being in the right place, reading the animal, and pressing the shutter when the light, the behaviour and the framing come together. Then comes the editing, which turns a good frame into an image that feels like you.

This workshop covers both halves. We spend the morning in the field together in Tanzania, then sit down in the afternoon and turn your best shots into finished photographs.

'A good photograph is made twice: once in the field, and once at the computer. Skip either one and the image never reaches its potential.'

WHO IS IT FOR?

Photographers of every level, from beginners who want to get off auto mode to experienced shooters who want to sharpen their field craft and editing. I edit mainly in Lightroom and Camera Raw, so the techniques are easy to follow whatever your experience.

HOW IS IT CONDUCTED?

It's a full, hands-on day. I take you through the whole process, from camera settings at sunrise to the final edit.

In the morning we head out on a game drive. I'll show you how I approach each sighting: where to position the vehicle, which settings to use, and how to anticipate behaviour before it happens.

After lunch we go through your images together, pick the strongest frames, and I walk you step by step through my editing workflow and every tool I use.

WHY TO DO IT?

  • You see the complete process, from the field to the finished image.
  • You get answers to your questions on the spot.
  • You practise everything you learn on real wildlife, with me beside you.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

  • A camera with a telephoto lens. Anything from 100–400mm works well, and longer is a bonus.
  • A laptop with Lightroom or Photoshop installed for the editing session.
  • Spare batteries and memory cards.

BOOK THIS WORKSHOP

Some people see editing as cheating. I don't. For me it's an essential part of photography, just like choosing the light or the angle.

Think about how many photos of lions and cheetahs are taken in Tanzania every single day. So how do you make yours stand out?

A big part of the answer is editing. It's where your personality shows in the image. My goal is that someone scrolling past a thousand safari photos stops at mine and knows straight away it's a Frank John photograph. In this workshop I'll help you find that signature for your own work.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Photographers of every level who want to edit with more confidence, from people just starting with Lightroom to experienced shooters looking to refine their post-production. Bring your own safari images, or work on some of mine.

HOW IS IT CONDUCTED?

This private session lasts about 5 hours and has two parts. First, I take you through my editing process in detail, adapted to your level.

After lunch you put it into practice on your own images, with me alongside to help whenever you need it.

WHY TO DO IT?

  • You see my complete editing process, step by step.
  • You get answers to your questions in real time.
  • You practise on your own photos with direct feedback.

Not everyone can travel to Tanzania, and you shouldn't have to in order to learn. The online workshop brings my editing sessions to you, wherever you are in the world.

The content is the same as the in-person editing workshop. The only difference is that we meet on screen. You share your images, I share my workflow, and we work through them together live.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Photographers of any level, anywhere in the world. It suits you especially well if you're short on time, can't travel right now, or simply want to come home from safari and finally do justice to your photos.

HOW IS IT CONDUCTED?

We meet live over video call, and I share my screen as I edit. You follow along on your own computer and ask questions as we go. A stable, fast internet connection keeps the session running smoothly.

WHY TO DO IT?

  • Personal, one-to-one training without leaving home.
  • Open to photographers anywhere in the world.
  • Answers to your questions in real time.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

  • A good, stable internet connection.
  • A selection of your RAW files, sent before the session.
  • Lightroom or Photoshop installed.
